Now for today's question. In the garden of Eden, God told Adam and Eve, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. " -Genesis 1:29.
After Noah and his family got off the ark, there were no crops, so God told them, "Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. " -Genesis 9:3.
Many scholars believe that God designed mankind for a vegetarian life in the paradise of Eden. So, my question is, if they are right about God's original intent, and if Jesus' atonement served to restore mankind to a right relationship with God, as in the original state, should people who have recieved Christ now return to a vegetarian diet?

Good question. I don't think so, at least here and now. When we finally get our new heaven and new earth, then yes, I think we will be vegetarian hippies walking around barefooted :)

Well, there is a certain ick factor to raw meat, i will give you that. But wouldn't Jesus have instructed us if that were His intent? Wouldn't there be a mention of it somewhere? Makes sense to me that if God intended us to go back to veggies, He would have said. And if not, then enough Christians would have been convicted by the Holy Spirit to do so. Isn't that how God works? He speaks through his word, the HS, and His church? Plus, I can't tell you how very happy I am to get beef back, yay that JT isn't allergic anymore, I need my iron! ;)

Thanks for using the Bible, but that passage is not about food, its about taking the gospel to the Gentiles.
However, there are some definite passages that answer the question--at least on the surface.
I know what it is talking about. But I don't think it would be used as an example if we weren't allowed to eat meat.
It also says in the Bible that we shouldn't do anything that would cause someone to stumble. I would hate to cause someone to stumble by not eating meat.
I wouldn't want to get out of bed in the morning knowing I had to eat lettuce for breakfast!

I believe if you think about that you will find it flawed. That would be like saying that we are not allowed to eat figs because Jesus cursed a fig tree. The cursing of the fig tree was not about figs. Neither was Peter's vision about eating meat, at all.
But the curse didn't curse all fig trees. Just the one He was looking at.

JK for those of you who take me too seriously. And to be honest, if I had to choose between chocolate and meat...wow! I think I would pick
Luke 24:42-43, "And they gave him (Jesus) a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them."
So until that day i believe that it is ok to eat meat until that day that Jesus is done preparing heaven and that place of rightiousness
Isaiah 11:6-9:
6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

That's great stuff. I was hoping someone would use the Luke passage and hadn't even thought about the Isaiah passage lately.
What do you think we will eat at the marriage supper of the lamb?
well to be honest didnt know what that was until i looked it up but of what i read in Rev. i dont think that we will be eating any food. it seems that we will be in righteous state and in our spiritual bodies there will be no need for food.. but if you are looking for an answer then i would have to say that since we would be in the form that God intended us to be in then we would eat veggies..and that means yuck.. i need meat and potatoes..
