What do you think?

I'd really like to hear y'all's ideas on this. Is medical care a right and privelege that should be available to all? If so, does that include all levels of medical care, primary care, trauma care, advanced life support, advanced therapies, rehabilitation, etc.? Or, is medical care a service that should be availabel based on the laws of economics like many other services?

That is a very good question. I really don't know how I feel about that. My thoughts are conflicting as I think about it.

I've always thought of medical care as a commodity, not necessarily a right. I think too many times that we have bought into the liberal mentality that all these things (home ownership, medical care, education, etc.) are needs instead of wants.

It is an interesting question. I am fortunate enough to have decent health care provided by me employer. Believe me, I consider this a blessing and try not to take it for granted. While it would be great for every person to be covered by health insurance, I'm not sure how practical this is. If we continue down the road of a wealth-redistributed/socialistic society then yes, it will probably happen in one form or another. What most people fail to understand is that national healthcare typically lowers the overall quality of healthcare for everyone.

I think if we start asking if folks are "entitled" to such things like healthcare then you have to broaden the question to include other things like paid vacations, new vehicles, corner offices, big-screen tv's and country-club memberships. I mean, I want those things as well, shouldn't I be entitled to them also?

well, that was a short conversation. But thanks mucho to y'all for trying.

I'm not totally sure how I would answer the question. I don't see it as strictly a commodity or luxury and I don't see it as a complete entitlement either. One thing I do know---looking at Canada and the UK, socialized medicine stinks! It is not a place the USA needs to go.
